My Quilting Story

My Story...

I'm Liz Smith, a wife and mother of two beautiful daughters who love quilts just as much as I do. Just as my grandmothers taught me quilting I am teaching them to piece together simple quilts. In no time at all they will be making beautiful faith-inspired quilts just like you. I have been quilting since 2003 and have made over 20 quilts and counting (I actually have lost count, but I can at least remember that many). I enjoy the challenge but also the quiet moments where I can reflect, sometimes pray, and grow deeper with my heavenly Father. I currently teach students at the Sewing Lab of Colorado County and am working on growing my collection of patterns and books.

Take a look at just a few of my quilts (I have made over 2o quilts and quilted many more). I pride myself on my creativity and wide range of techniques. When you entrust me with your quilt, you can expect that the quilting I do will meet or exceed the standard set by these quilts here.

Puppy Love

This is a custom quilt for a client who loves dogs. I found the perfect inspiration in the dog fabric that borders the top and bottom of the main panel, which is a very large appliqué piece. Custom quilting included swirls, circles and loops with swirls.

A Walk in the Woods

A custom quilt for a client who requested a bear quilt. I used foundation paper piecing to create little bear paws and traditional piecing for the trees. The bears are raw edge appliqué. Quilted all over with a bear paw design.

Scrappy Wedding Ring Quilt

Curves do not frighten me... I handled all the extra bumps in the quilt top with ease during quilting. That's one of the advantages of using a sit-down machine to do the free motion quilting.

Little Black Dress Quilt

This quilt was pieced with precision and quilted using feathers in the black/grey columns and wavy lines in the red. The panels were custom quilted to highlight the dresses.

Corona Virus Memories

I used scraps from hospital gowns to male this quilt and did custom quilting on each block, swirls and virus outlines.

Texas Summer Night

Collage quilts are a newer form of quilting and, oh, so much fun.

Through the Window

I decided to approach quilting this quilt for a client, but thinking about looking through a window. I mirrored the architecture of India at the top of the quilt to make it feel like you were looking through a window at two beautiful tigers.
